Introduction
If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably downloaded a dozen productivity apps over the years—most of which now collect digital dust on your phone. But a few have actually stuck around in my daily routine. Here’s a quick rundown of the ones I’m still using as we roll into 2025, why I like them, and a couple of honest gripes too.
1. Trello
I started using Trello back when a friend recommended it for planning a group trip. Turns out, it’s just as handy for keeping my work projects on track. I especially love dragging cards around—there’s something satisfying about “moving” a finished task.
2. Notion
Notion was confusing at first, honestly. But once I figured out how to make templates for my weekly journal and to-do list, I was hooked. Now, it’s like my digital everything drawer—notes, recipes, even my dog’s vet schedule.
3. Slack
I have a mixed sentiment towards Slack. It’s excellent for chatting with my team and sharing files, but sometimes I miss old-fashioned email. Still, Slack is hard to beat for quickly asking questions or finding a random meme that someone shared three weeks ago.
4. Google Workspace
I probably use Google Docs more than Word these days. Group projects are just easier when everyone can type in one place. Google Sheets is my go-to for tracking my tiny (but growing!) savings, too.
5. RescueTime
The first week I tried RescueTime, I was shocked at how much time I spent reading news sites. Now, I set little goals for myself each week. (Full disclosure: I don’t always hit them.)
6. Todoist
To be honest, I’ve tried many to-do apps, but Todoist is the only one I’ve stuck with. I like that it’s simple and doesn’t nag me too much if I skip a day or two.
7. Focus@Will
I’m uncertain if it’s the music or just the ritual of turning it on, but Focus@Will helps me tune out when I’m writing or tackling boring admin work. Occasionally I switch it up with lo-fi playlists on YouTube, but this app is my fallback.
Conclusion
Productivity tools are personal—what works for me might not click for you. If you’re hunting for something new in 2025, maybe give one or two of these a shot. And if you’ve got a favorite I didn’t mention, I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
